UPDATE! Although the 2005-2006 House passed House Bills 4849 & 4850, the Senate didn't before adjournment, probably due to opposition by the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice, and Governor Granholm, who stated she intended to veto them.

1.08: Mortgage Fraud Update

UPDATE! Michigan House Bill 6267 has been enacted as Public Act 645 of 2006 with an effective date of January 5, 2007.

The 2005-2006 legislature didn't pass Michigan House Bills 6432-6436. The representatives who sponsored these bills had called a press conference to announce their sponsorship shortly before the elections. Knowledgeable sources have stated that the other party failed to support the bills because of allegations of political "grandstanding," not because the bills were without merit. It's anticipated that that they will be quietly re-introduced and enacted by the 2007-2008 legislature.
